Course Description
Rocks and Drops is all about being able to tackle steep rocky features with confidence and learning how to ride drop offs safely. We’ll ride things like The Slab and do some drop offs on the Hope Line and elsewhere.
The Slab
Along with Flow – Hops & Jumps, this day is the next level up from the fundamentals of the ‘Stop Crashing’ skills days. It’s ‘intermediate’ level and is aimed at confident mountain bikers who are looking to progress with a major skills upgrade.

If you can’t yet do basic manuals, rear wheel lifts or know how to pump the trail, then do the Stop Crashing level 2 course first. These skills will be reviewed but it will be better if you already have some understanding to get the most from the day.
Here’s a short video including something about riding drop offs.
The Flow is all about riding smoother and faster on technical trails. We’ll be using red and black trails as well as the Hope Line and some ‘off piste’ features (that are not part of the normal trails) in the forest for this day.
Drop off
Riding with flow is about being relaxed and in control of your bike as you go fast on the trail. We’ll review the techniques of effective body position and good timing to ‘pump the trail’ and carry speed through corners and over technical features. We’ll also build on the skills developed in Stop Crashing level 2 of ‘manual’ and ‘rear wheel lift’. Then we’ll progress to both wheels off the ground and ride some drop offs.
Check out this video to see the basics of drop off technique in action on a trail feature.
