Looking back on 2010, this video is a highlight. After working up at Lee and Cragg quarries building trails, I was lucky enough to ride with the boss in this cool video.

I’m looking forward to getting back up there when the snow has gone.

Hat, Sack & Craic

Thought I’d beat the winter blues and pop out for a quick ride on Saturday. I went down to my local bike shop, Blazing Saddles in Hebden Bridge to join their shop ride. When I got there I was surprised to see a large group of Santas and found that we were actually going out for a 5 1/2 hour Christmas ride in the snow. I felt a bit under dressed in normal clothes, but at least I had my big bushy beard.
I can moan on a bit about riding in the snow and don’t usually go in for being all that Ho Ho Ho! at Christmas. However my Scrooge was firmly turned around by the ride. Cars honked and children smiled and waved at us as we rode along. Really good ride, good company, good couple of pub stops and all round good cheer. Thanks for having me along guys.

I was going to write a newsletter to tell people all about the skills courses, holidays and other new Great Rock developments that are coming up in 2011. As I grappled with the mechanics of doing this, I started to think how much I didn’t actually like newsletters. I don’t really want more emails myself, so why should I inflict them on other people? Instead I’ve decided to use video to let people know about what’s coming up. While I’m at it, I’m also going to give my opinions on some of the mountain bike gear that I use on a daily basis. I’ll try to keep the video-casts short and endeavour to make them entertaining.

So far I’ve made a video in bed about next year’s skills/riding holiday to the Basque Country in Spain. I’ve also just made a video-cast about some of the kit that I like the best for wearing on my feet.

There is now a site dedicated to the Great Rock video casts at great-rock.tv

The videos are on Vimeo as well as YouTube so you can watch them on your preferred device. You can subscribe on the site to get updates as they come if you like.

Right, I’m off to plan my Christmas broadcast….

Great Rock Skills & Riding Holiday to Spain

The video above shows some of the coastal riding, which is just part of what is on offer in the fabulous Basque region of northern Spain. Lots of natural singletrack, plenty of technical trails and the chance to use van uplift to get more descending done in a day. WOOP!
